Race for the Ipad

March 27, 2011

THIS made my March….and heaven knows…i needed something!

So, we have these great friends, the Newtons, and they have four awesome daughters in all stages of life from single to married, throw in a few grandchildren, some boyfriends and typical life happenings and we get to live vicariously through them. Lord knows, I need something….thank heavens for the Newtons.  This weekend, the Newton(seniors) were taking off for a week of warm weather in the islands while some/all of their kids were “partyin’ at the family abode.  (not really partyin’, more like taking care of the dogs and stuff…..)

The youngest daughter, a hip, chic New Yorker, had just purchased the new Ipad 2 to replace her older (???) Ipad and was giving away her old Ipad. Her original offer was to give it to the first one of her sisters &/or hubbies who responded to her OFFER email. Of course, there was a tie…and this is where things got exciting!

As a tie-breaker, the two of the couples(four people) needed to have a race around the block.  Not just any race…a creative approach to “racing for an Ipad”!  Each of the 4 of them had to chug a beer, race about 200 yards, chug another beer and then finish with an 150 yard uphill homestretch!  To set the stage…it was cold & windy (about 35 degrees with 25 mph winds out of the north).

Here is a short clip of some of the action (click on the picture to watch):

I can not think of the last time I have laughed this hard.  The whole idea cracks me up. Is this how desperate we are up here in Maine for entertainment? How much do you LOVE people who are willing to participate in this!!??  How much do I wish I was in the family…..I would have kicked some B—. I know why these crazy people up here are called MAINEiacs! They earn the title!

The Newtons are the salt of the earth, awesome, so-lucky-we know-them family. They include us in everything. They are kind, loving, thoughtful and the “stand by me” type of family.  I love that we can stand on the sidelines and watch them live. It gives me inspiration for our own family.

Let me leave you with a few photos of the day.

Thanks so much for the laughs!

OK, this was very funny….and love the background soundtrack! Looks like the couple in the white shirts took home the “old” iPad???? Way to go! I myself was thinking….good Lord, chug a beer, run, more beer and run again…in freezing temps???? Heart attack waiting to happen for me!
Lucky you to have found and made such good friends in Maine. I am sure they count their blessings as they enjoy watching you, Dan and your children travel the path of life!
    XOXO

So glad you guys were able to be spectators…what a riot that all was! Stick around Maine for long enough and you are bound to get involved in some of our future competitions…drink offs, cook offs, races…we do it all!

Maybe you should suggest to your friends that they make this a yearly event. They could call it the Chug and Run, or something, since you and Ipad realistically can’t be given each year.
